After the new 1 Series, it was time for its sedan counterpart, referred to by BMW as the Gran Coupé. The 2 Series has also undergone a thorough facelift, which has definitely benefited it.

Creating a good-looking, compact sedan is not an easy task. History recalls many representatives of this segment with distorted proportions. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé presented in 2019 also evoked mixed feelings regarding its design. Fortunately, the comprehensive facelift brought the anticipated changes.
A completely new face
Technically speaking, the 2 Series Gran Coupé is essentially the 1 Series dressed in a sedan body. You'll find the same new interior, the same powertrain options, and the same face as in the new 1 Series. This is positive news because the significantly refreshed front seems to better match a sedan.
The hood is slightly longer and lower than before, and the narrower headlights and grille enhance the impression of sleekness. Similarly, the higher upper edge of the windshield and the Hofmeister kink just before the C-pillar contribute to this effect.
The wheelbase remains unchanged (267 cm), but the body length has been slightly altered, now measuring 455 cm (+2.5 cm), which positively impacts the vehicle's proportions and visual appeal.
It’s also worth noting the rear of the car, which is no longer as bulky as before. Moreover, the same lights as in the hatchback are used here. They look better than those in its predecessor.
Digital minimalism
The interior, identical to the 1 Series, has changed even more than the body. The gear selector has vanished from the centre console, replaced by a tiny selector. Traditionally for BMW, the cockpit is dominated by two connected screens measuring 10.25 inches and 10.7 inches.
The difference compared to the 1 Series is noticeable in the rear, where, due to the sloping roof, there is less headroom. People over 180 cm might find it challenging to find a comfortable position. The trunk is not excessively large either, with a capacity ranging from 368 to 425 litres depending on the powertrain version. However, the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seat is noteworthy.
Familiar engines
The range of engines is also the same as in the 1 Series. Initially, the offer will include a 1.5-litre three-cylinder gasoline engine with 168 hp and two diesels - the 148-hp 118d and the 161-hp 120d (both supported by mild hybrid technology). Later, the lineup will be supplemented by the top version M235i with a 300-hp gasoline engine and xDrive all-wheel drive. A 7-speed automatic is standard in every version.
Successful facelift
The comprehensive modernization has benefited the 2 Series. The car has gained better proportions and more cohesive styling. Considering the technical similarity to the 1 Series, it should also perform well on the road. It is not out of the question that it will finally be appreciated by customers and start appearing more frequently on the roads.
Success, however, largely depends on prices. We should know them soon. So far, the 2 Series Gran Coupé started from a level of 154,000 PLN. After changes, it will probably be slightly more expensive.
