Biden backs out: Harris leads Democratic race with $96M boost

Kamala Harris has the best chance of replacing Joe Biden in the race for President of the USA. According to a filing with the Federal Election Commission, the "Biden for President" campaign committee has just been renamed the "Harris for President" campaign committee.

On Sunday, US Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her commitment to uniting the Democratic Party and the nation to defeat Donald Trump. Joe Biden endorsed Harris's candidacy. Earlier, the US president announced that he would not seek re-election.

Formally, Kamala Harris is not yet the Democratic Party's candidate for president. But the first significant decision has already been made.

ABC News reported that according to a new filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the "Biden for President" campaign committee has just been renamed to the "Harris for President" campaign committee.

According to ABC News reports, Kamala Harris's main campaign committee will now have nearly 96 million dollars in cash.

After President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the re-election race, the Democratic candidate will be chosen by over 4,600 party delegates who do not have formal instructions on whom to vote for. Nevertheless, Vice President Kamala Harris is the clear favourite to succeed Biden. At the same time, the vice-presidential candidate will remain to be selected.
