An employee of an Italian municipal office can consider himself incredibly lucky. A peaceful mushroom-picking trip almost ended in tragedy. While the 33-year-old was picking mushrooms in the forest near Lake Garda, he was attacked by a bear. The incident took place on Saturday (10/19) around 4 PM Eastern Time.

The bear struck the Italian mushroom picker, leaving numerous claw marks on his back and arms. The 33-year-old was completely unprepared for a bear attack and had no time to react.

I didn't think a bear could attack me. When I felt someone hit me from behind, I thought someone was pushing me and wanted to beat me up - said a municipal office employee who was attacked by a wild animal to the Italian media.

The "Alto Adige" service reports that the man's injuries were not serious, and thankfully it ended in fright. The victim of the bear attack was able to call for help on his own. Rescuers arrived at the scene and took him to the hospital for routine tests.

Importantly, local authorities state that the attack occurred very close to residential areas. The bear jumped on the 33-year-old just a few minutes' walk from the centres of Marazzone, Cavaione, and Rango.

What will happen to the bear? The aggressive animal will be identified using DNA traces and then euthanized. Authorities emphasize that individuals exhibiting high levels of aggression must be eliminated to ensure the safety of the local community.
