The "Bad Boys" series has endured tough times, quiet periods between its stars, Martin Lawrence's health issues, and Will Smith's antics during the Oscars ceremony. The fourth installment of the film was a huge success in theatres and is now available for rent or purchase on streaming services.

The first part of the action comedy "Bad Boys" hit theatres in 1995. It's noteworthy that Martin Lawrence’s movie was more popular than Will Smith's ("Independence Day" came out a year later). The film was successful, earning approximately CAD 88 million. However, it wasn't initially enough to warrant a sequel. Smith soon became a major star, so "Bad Boys" returned to theatres in 2003, grossing about CAD 370 million.

For the third time, Martin and Will teamed up in 2020. Few believed in the success of this production at the time. Lawrence had largely faded from the spotlight due to various health struggles. Smith was still a star but no longer consistently producing hits. Besides, the two didn't get along for a while. Despite all this, "Bad Boys For Life" performed exceptionally well, grossing around CAD 578 million, and became the last box-office hit before the pandemic.

Then came the infamous incident that overshadowed the entire 94th Academy Awards ceremony. In front of the whole world, Will Smith slapped host Chris Rock. The actor began apologizing for his behaviour just a few minutes later when he accepted the Oscar for his role in the film "King Richard." But the damage was done. Preparations for all productions involving Smith—including the fourth installment of "Bad Boys"—were cancelled or suspended.

After a two-year hiatus, Will Smith has returned to favour with audiences and critics, as evidenced by the success of the film "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," which grossed about CAD 530 million. Mike and Marcus try to clear Captain Howard of drug-related crimes in the latest production. As they get closer to uncovering the truth, they are framed and hunted by both the police and every gang in the city...
