Apple seems to recognize its delay in artificial intelligence and diligently works to catch up with its competitors. While the company has a team of engineers developing its AI technologies, they do not appear ready for widespread use in the brand's devices. This realization led to the decision to collaborate with a more experienced partner.
Rumours have circulated that Apple might partner with Google. However, recent reports indicate that these discussions did not yield the anticipated outcomes, prompting Apple to pursue collaboration with another AI industry leader, the OpenAI lab.
Apple's collaboration with OpenAI
According to Bloomberg, the deal with OpenAI is nearing completion. The upcoming iPhone models will feature new features powered by the well-known chatbot Chat GPT (presently, iPhone users can access the ChatGPT app).
After speaking with knowledgeable individuals, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple aims to incorporate technology from OpenAI to introduce innovative AI features in future iPhone iterations. The negotiations are now close to reaching a formal agreement.
iOS 18 with AI support
The partnership between these tech giants is expected to be officially announced at the June WWDC conference. At that time, Apple could unveil iOS 18, bringing new artificial intelligence-based features to iPhones.
Although the specifics of these features have yet to be disclosed, looking at what competitors currently offer, we can anticipate functionalities such as photo editing, transcription of voice notes, summarizing websites, and text generation.
