Anna Kendrick had already announced that she does not intend to become a mother. The actress decided to discuss this openly, challenging societal norms. She first wrote that "motherhood isn't for her" in her book "Scrappy Little Nobody" (it wasn't available in a Polish translation). Now, in her latest interview, she has shared more thoughts on the subject.
Anna Kendrick calls herself a "child-free cat lady"
In a conversation with Flow Space, Kendrick highlighted a common statement often voiced by men: "Maybe someday, a few kids running around." She admitted, "I've never heard any woman say that."
Kendrick explains that there's an image behind this statement, which she finds problematic. She described it like this: "A man comes home from work, puts down his briefcase, prepares a drink, and a woman in a Laura Ashley-style dress plays with children dressed in white in the yard. Where is the man in all this?"
The actress also raised the issue of co-parenting and the phrase that irritates her, often heard from men: "I want to help with the kids." Kendrick notes that these words are often spoken by husbands, even when both partners work.
Despite her clear stance, Kendrick admits that she sometimes feels excluded from conversations about parenting among her friends who have children. "I always want to say something, but ultimately I conclude that I'm just a child-free cat owner and won't interfere," she admits.
"Child-free cat ladies" is an expression used by J.D. Vance, who ran for Vice President of the USA. He talked about Kamala Harris, who has not had children. Without mercy, during a conversation with Fox News, he stated that women who haven't given birth are "child-free cat ladies who are unhappy in their miserable lives" and that they contribute nothing to America. Among those who responded to his comments was Jennifer Aniston, who publicly spoke about her struggle to conceive.
"Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to one day become pregnant and carry that pregnancy to term. I hope she won't have to go through IVF as her second option. Because it seems like you want to take that away from her too," Aniston added.
