Air fryer revolution: Bake perfect cakes in just 15 minutes
Does your air fryer serve only fries and crispy wings? It's time to expand your repertoire. You can also bake delicious, fluffy cakes in it. We have some practical tips. The dessert will be ready in just fifteen minutes.
Air fryers, which are oil-free fryers, have recently gained popularity. They are well-known primarily for making dishes crispy. Although these appliances differ from traditional ovens, you can also use them to bake cakes. It's simpler and faster than you might think.
Remember this when preparing cakes in an air fryer
- Several types of cakes turn out particularly well in air fryers. These include: sponge cake, brownies, crumble cakes, carrot cake, banana bread, as well as muffins and cupcakes. You don't have to use special recipes developed for air fryers. You can try the ones you've trusted for years.
- When you want to bake a taller cake, such as a sponge cake, divide it into parts. Pour the prepared batter into two pans and bake separately. This way, each part will be evenly baked. You don't have to worry that it will take a long time because each layer bakes in about 15 minutes.
- If you plan to bake cupcakes, single molds work better than a larger pan. It's also worth using mini loaf pans, which yield good results for baking banana or pumpkin bread.
- Pay close attention to baking time and temperature. In an air fryer, cakes are ready about 10 to 15 minutes faster. You also need to set a lower temperature. If the recipe calls for 180°C (356°F), 150°C (302°F) is enough.
- It's very important to preheat the pan before baking. If you skip this step, the top of the cake may burn while the bottom remains raw. It's worth using the preheating function in the fryer.
- Do not grease the pan before preheating, as the fat may burn. It's better to do it afterwards using melted butter or a spray with vegetable oil. After preheating the pan, remove it from the drawer, always using oven mitts, place it on a heat-resistant mat, and grease it.
- How do you check if the cake is baked through? Use the well-known method. When the program is over, open the drawer and insert a metal skewer or wooden stick into the centre of the cake. If it is baked, it should come out clean, without crumbs. If you're unsure, close the drawer and bake the cake for another 3 to 5 minutes.
