In the Sunday interview with the Associated Press, President Zelensky discussed the current situation in the war. “We are fighting, we are living, we are doing everything to bring peace closer. We are closer to it than ever in these three years of war,” he stated.

Zelensky also mentioned that he is expecting a visit soon from Donald Trump's special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.

Referring to media reports about interactions between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Zelensky emphasized that no discussions concerning Ukraine can take place without Ukrainian involvement. He further remarked that “they can have their own relationship, but talking about Ukraine without us can be very dangerous for everyone.”

"He cannot admit to this"

The President of Ukraine shared his thoughts on Putin's fears. According to him, the Russian leader should fear direct negotiations with Ukraine and will strive to portray the conflict as a war between Russia and the West.

“He did not defeat Ukraine, which means he will lose. And he cannot admit to this,” Zelensky said, adding that Putin will avoid the possibility of ending the war at the negotiating table in Ukraine by concocting various pretexts.

However, the Ukrainian president expressed hope that continued support for the Ukrainian army and sanctions targeting the Russian energy and banking sectors will compel Putin to negotiate.
