Zelensky warns of North Korean impact on Russian frontlines
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview with Kyodo News, stated that North Korean soldiers deployed in Russia's Kursk region are becoming "cannon fodder." Even now, there are those among them who are killed and injured, he remarked. He emphasized that the war had entered a "complicated period" and that a "diplomatic solution" would be necessary.
Zelensky did not disclose details regarding the number of casualties among North Korean military personnel, noting that evidence is needed before specific data can be provided. In his opinion, Russia may send more soldiers from North Korea to the front, which could reduce losses in the Russian army.
"Our army lacks the strength to do it"
The Ukrainian president warned that the presence of North Koreans on the front will affect security in Asia. Their involvement in the fighting will allow them to gain experience in conducting modern warfare, which can be relayed to the command in Pyongyang.
Zelensky admitted that it would be difficult to regain the territories occupied by Russia, including Crimea forcefully. "Our army lacks the strength to do that. That is true," he said. However, he emphasized that diplomatic solutions can only be considered when Ukraine is strong enough.
He noted that support for his country from partners "is not enough." He called on NATO countries to invite Kyiv to talk about alliance membership. On Friday, at 4:00 PM ET, Zelensky suggested in a conversation with Sky News a readiness to reach an agreement with Russia in exchange for NATO membership.
Zelensky assessed that Russian troops are advancing faster in eastern Ukraine. He emphasized that support for Ukraine from partners "is not enough" and called on NATO countries to invite Kyiv to talks about alliance membership as soon as possible.
