Zelensky's visit to Ankara on Tuesday comes at a crucial time, as talks between the USA and Russia about ending the war are taking place in Saudi Arabia. The meeting in Riyadh aims to rebuild bilateral relations and prepare for possible peace negotiations.

Turkey, which has previously offered to mediate in the Ukrainian conflict, once again emphasizes its readiness to promote peace. The Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, stated that both Europe and Turkey should participate in the negotiations. He also highlighted the need for a ceasefire and the creation of a long-term peace plan.

Zelensky's visit

Zelensky has visited Turkey twice since the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, most recently in March 2024. His current visit to Ankara coincides with the talks in Riyadh, which involve U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Authorities in Kyiv and the European Union have not been invited to participate in these negotiations.

Zelensky will also visit Saudi Arabia. The Ukrainian president is expected in Riyadh on Wednesday, rather than Tuesday as previously announced.
