YouTube, as the largest video platform globally, faces challenges related to content credibility. In the rapid AI technology development era, it is becoming increasingly difficult to differentiate between genuine recordings and those generated artificially. In response, YouTube has introduced a new video labelling feature to enhance transparency.
YouTube - the most popular video platform
YouTube is the largest and most popular platform for sharing video content worldwide. Billions of users visit it monthly to watch, comment on, and create videos on various topics—from tutorials and vlogs to professional productions.
YouTube's popularity stems from easy access to content and a wide range of materials tailored to different audiences. For years, the platform has been committed to developing features that enhance user satisfaction and safety. Now, it's time for the next step—addressing content authenticity, which aims to further strengthen user trust in published materials.
Major changes on the platform. Goal? Authenticity
YouTube is introducing a new video labelling feature called "recorded with a camera," which aims to increase content authenticity. The new system will allow users to recognize materials recorded using a real camera without audio or video edits. This enables the platform to take another step in combating AI-generated content, which increasingly appears on YouTube and may mislead viewers.
This feature is based on the technological standard C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity), which operates on the principle of a chain of evidence by adding metadata to confirm the video's originality. Only materials recorded using appropriate devices and unedited are eligible for this label, giving users greater assurance about the credibility of the content they watch.
