Peace lilies, while undeniably beautiful and easy to grow, do have specific needs. During winter, it's crucial to provide them with the right temperature. The optimal temperature for these plants during winter is between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius. If the plant is situated directly beside a radiator, it may dry out and suffer leaf damage. Thus, ensuring an ideal location for our green companion is essential.

How to care for a peace lily during the heating season?

A key rule for maintaining an ideal microclimate for a peace lily is to avoid drafts. Peace lilies do not like sudden changes in temperature, so it's important to carefully choose their location in your home, especially when ventilating rooms.

Winter is also when indoor air can become very dry, which adversely affects all tropical plants. In their natural environment, these plants are used to high humidity, so it's important to consider this aspect in their care.

One way to increase air humidity is by placing bowls of water near the plants, which slowly evaporate, humidifying the air.

Lighting conditions are pivotal for the health of a peace lily, particularly when days become shorter and less sunny. Even though this plant doesn't tolerate direct sunlight, it needs access to light to grow properly. In winter, you can help by moving it closer to a window, but keep it away from cold drafts and the radiator.

Proper watering is essential during winter. At this time, the plant grows more slowly, so watering once a week is enough to keep the soil slightly moist but not wet.

Why do peace lily's leaves turn brown?

The browning of peace lily leaves is a common issue that can arise from various care-related factors. Often the causes are low humidity and excessively high temperatures indoors during the heating season. Peace lilies, which naturally thrive in humid climates, do not fare well in dry air. It's also crucial to avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause leaf burns. Moreover, both overwatering and underwatering, as well as improper fertilization, can contribute to this issue.

How to revive a peace lily? Support your plant with this simple method. Dissolve one teaspoon of sugar in about one litre of water and use it to water the peace lily. However, remember not to overwater, as this can lead to root rot. With regular use of this nutrient, the plant will recover, producing healthy, lush green leaves.
