Are you getting enough sleep but still feeling constantly tired? Is your hair falling out in handfuls? This could be a sign that you might have anemia. Anemia affects children, adults, and older people alike. It's a severe condition that shouldn't be underestimated. If left untreated, it can lead to heart failure.

If you're struggling with anemia and want to enhance the effectiveness of your medications, ensure your diet includes as much iron as possible. This simple smoothie is a natural vitamin bomb.

Delicious vegetable-fruit smoothie. Improves skin condition and boosts iron levels

Anemia is a condition with too little hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells that is responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. This "lack of oxygen" in the body is acutely felt. A decreased hemoglobin level makes us feel tired, exhausted, and sluggish. Nails become thin and brittle, and hair starts falling out in handfuls.

If you notice these symptoms in yourself, go to a doctor as soon as possible, who will order the appropriate tests. Most commonly, this is a complete blood count with a differential. Anemia requires treatment in the form of taking high-dose iron tablets.

During this particular time, it's worth taking care of your diet. It should include as many iron-rich foods as possible. These include beef, beets, nuts, pumpkin seeds, legumes, bell peppers, and parsley. Remember, however, that iron is only absorbed when consumed with vitamin C.

Want to boost your iron levels naturally? Check out Julia Szymura's recipe for a creamy vegetable-fruit smoothie, published by a certified clinical dietitian. The smoothie contains iron, vitamin C, and high-omega fatty acid foods. Drink it regularly to increase your ferritin levels.
