Why single life attracts more psychopathic traits: Insights from Turin researchers
He can be charming and blend well with the crowd. However, certain traits can help us identify him. The psychopath, as we refer to him, has intrigued experts for years.
Can a psychopath be recognized? According to scientists, yes. Some analyses suggest that individuals with a psychopathic personality type are marked by extraordinary, immediately captivating charm that is, however, superficial and a lack of empathy. Online, you can also find advice on observing the demeanour of someone suspected of being a psychopath.
Today, however, we will look at research conducted by scientists in Turin, who noticed a completely different, quite surprising aspect.
Psychopathy and relationship status
Researchers conducted a study on a group of 1,101 people. The respondents were analyzed for the so-called dark triad, which includes narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism. The collected data showed that singles have higher rates of psychopathic traits. People in steady relationships exhibit fewer manipulative tendencies and a lower psychopathy index.
"The personality traits belonging to the Dark Triad are characterised by strong egocentrism, manipulative behaviour, and low morals. Individuals with these socially unfavourable traits have greater difficulty empathising with and considering the needs of others, which is essential for fostering loving interpersonal relationships, although they often succeeded in attracting partners," cites the research of Turin scientists, ladbible.com.
Researchers also noted that individuals in relationships more frequently show narcissistic traits. Although they struggle to maintain close relationships, narcissists can satisfy their need for power or dominance precisely by having a partner. What else did the analyses reveal? Traits belonging to the "dark triad" occur more frequently in men than women.
