WhatsApp tests music feature for lively status updates
WhatsApp is developing a new feature for its messenger app. According to the latest updates for beta testers, users will soon be able to add music as background to their statuses. This enhancement aims to make WhatsApp updates more engaging.
WhatsApp consistently improves its messenger by introducing new experimental features, and the latest beta update for Android is no exception. As highlighted by the WABetaInfo service, adding musical tracks as background to statuses is now being tested publicly. This addition could enhance the appeal of statuses, making them similar to Instagram or Facebook stories.
WhatsApp users who want to add music to their statuses can access the "extensive library of tracks" provided by Meta. Although detailed information about the library size hasn't been disclosed, a screenshot shows that popular songs by popular artists can be used (the screenshot features a song by ABBA) rather than just instrumental or original tracks to accompany graphic content.
The new WhatsApp feature to add music to statuses is available in the Android version 2.25.2.5 beta. As is typical with WhatsApp tests, this feature is only available to some users, not everyone who downloads the beta version.
However, since the tests are currently public, the feature will likely soon be available for everyone in the stable release of the messenger. The WhatsApp team usually begins testing new features mentioned by WABetaInfo with non-public trials, a common practice during the initial development stage of any feature.
