Trump's approval ratings dip amid controversial decisions
The percentage of Americans approving of President Donald Trump decreased from 47 to 45 percent over the week, according to the Ipsos poll published on Wednesday. This decline follows some of the initial decisions made by the American president.
According to the Ipsos poll released on Wednesday, support for Donald Trump fell from 47 to 45 percent within a week.
- While it does seem Trump is getting a honeymoon to some extent, his numbers are still not impressive by historical standards, said Kyle Kondik from the University of Virginia Center for Politics in an interview with Reuters.
In the early weeks of the previous term, Trump had 49 percent support, but ended it with 34 percent, the agency recalls.
What are Americans most critical of?
Ipsos examined voters' attitudes toward Trump's decisions and announcements. The plans to restructure the federal administration are the most popular, supported by 61 percent of respondents. Meanwhile, 49 percent of Americans support the hiring freeze and the requirement to work from the office.
Plans to increase fossil fuel production are supported by 48 percent of Americans; responses vary significantly based on party affiliation—76 percent of Republicans support them, whereas 81 percent of Democrats oppose them.
Most Americans view some of Trump's foreign policy plans negatively. For instance, changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico is supported by 25 percent, and imposing tariffs on imports from Canada receives 37 percent support. The decision to pardon participants in the Capitol assault is supported by 34 percent, while the abolition of birthright citizenship is supported by 36 percent.
