Volvo S60 goes down in history. The Swedish manufacturer has announced the end of production for this beautiful sedan, which never broke sales records but, in the eyes of many customers, surpassed its competition in looks.

The new Volvo S60 will no longer be available, and the current generation will end production in June. The car is manufactured in Ridgeville, South Carolina, USA, but production of the EX90, a fully electric SUV, has already begun in the same factory. Volvo aims to make more profit with the EX90 while fulfilling its mission of zero emissions.
The third-generation Volvo S60 debuted in the 2019 model year and was the first sedan produced in the USA at the Volvo factory in South Carolina. During five years of production, we saw many versions of the S60, but it never came with a diesel engine under the hood like its station wagon sibling, the V60. Mainly for this reason, it didn't sell as well as competing models from Audi, BMW, or Mercedes.
Interestingly, the history of the Volvo S60 and Volvo V60 have followed separate paths from the very beginning. The S60 debuted in 2000 as a sedan, while the station wagon counterpart was the V70. In 2010, the first V60 appeared alongside the second S60. These were twin cars sharing the same design and engine range.
In the third generation of the S60 and the second generation of the V60, the paths of both models diverged again. The S60 sedan produced in the USA was offered exclusively with gasoline engines, including plug-in hybrids. In total, there were 12 drivetrain versions. Meanwhile, the Volvo V60, manufactured in Ghent, Belgium and Göteborg, Sweden, has been offered in 20 gasoline versions and 7 diesel versions throughout its production period.
I asked the Volvo press office about the future of the V60 model. Even though the car comes from a completely different factory, the brand might already have plans for this beautiful station wagon. As soon as we get the information, we will let you know.
