US readies major CAD 510 million aid package for Ukraine
The United States is preparing a substantial military aid package for Ukraine worth CAD 510 million, Reuters reported, citing sources within the American administration.
The package is expected to be announced next week and will include patrol boats, additional ammunition for HIMARS systems, artillery ammunition of 155mm and 105mm caliber, spare parts, and other types of weapons.
Aid for Ukraine
Reuters notes that this is Kyiv's largest military support package in many months. Since May, Washington has not provided Ukraine with more support than CAD 375 million.
Assistance for Kyiv is being provided under the PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) mechanism, which allows the US president to use current weapons stocks to support allies in emergencies.
The agency emphasizes that the scope and amount of assistance may still change before being signed by President Joe Biden.
