The war in Ukraine has taken a rather surprising turn for the Russian aggressor. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have entered the territory of the Kursk region and intend to defend their positions there. Here is how ordinary Russians are reacting to the Ukrainian soldiers.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to Putin's plans, was supposed to last only a few days. However, it has turned into a prolonged conflict that has been ongoing for over 900 days. The recent occupation of the Kursk region by the AFU was not a scenario considered by the Kremlin.

Since the beginning of August, the Ukrainians have taken over an area of approximately 1,240 square kilometres in the Kursk region. They control 92 Russian localities. A video has appeared online showing how Ukrainian soldiers are interacting with Russian civilians.

"My dear boys, let me hug you." A resident of the Kursk region met Ukrainian soldiers who brought food for her and her neighbours, reported Ukrainian politician Anton Herashchenko on the social media platform X.

It turns out that some inhabitants of the Kursk region welcome the Ukrainians not as occupiers but as liberators. In the video shared by Herashchenko, soldiers bring an elderly woman a package of food.

- This is canned meat. Share it with the rest. Give it to anyone in need so we don't have to deliver it to everyone. The whole box is for you. Share it, you live on this street, you know everyone - said one of the soldiers.

The woman couldn't believe that a soldier from the enemy army had given her a box of canned goods. Since she had no way to repay them, she decided to hug the Ukrainian soldiers.

Thank you very much. I'll call Grandma Valya. Wait, my dear boys. God bless you. May God take care of you. Let me hug you. My darlings! - said the moved woman.
