During the same meeting, Steinmeier communicated his apprehensions about U.S. President Donald Trump's plans to relocate Palestinians and the U.S. intervention in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that throughout the Middle East region, he hears only concerns regarding this proposal.

Quoted by the dpa agency, Steinmeier noted that the Middle East needs a lasting solution, not temporary measures. In his view, relocating Palestinians could trigger additional tensions and conflicts.

Threat to Palestinians

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also criticized Trump's plans, stressing that the Gaza Strip is Palestinian territory. Expelling them would contravene international law.

"It would also lead to new suffering and new hatred," Baerbock declared in a statement. She added, "There must be no solution over the heads of the Palestinians."

Trump's controversial proposal

Donald Trump proposed that Palestinians be permanently relocated, suggesting that Jordan, Egypt, and other countries could accept them. Trump argued that the Gaza Strip is war-torn and requires a comprehensive overhaul.

While visiting Saudi Arabia, Steinmeier emphasized that a new approach is necessary to stabilize the entire region, not just Israel and the Palestinians. In his opinion, current efforts are not delivering the desired outcomes.
