The Ukrainian government has secured CAD 32 million this year to support the development of its defence sector startups, and several of these newly formed companies are already making significant strides on the global stage, according to the industry service.
Ukraine is striving to attract foreign capital, seeing investments not only as a source of funding but also as a guarantee of security and an opportunity for expansion into global markets.
Some Ukrainian companies can already boast advanced technologies. The industry service highlights companies like Piranha-Tech, known for its cutting-edge electronic warfare systems, and Skiftech, which has developed tactical simulators utilizing laser technology.
Ukraine hopes for Western support
Military aid from the USA for Ukraine amounting to CAD 11 billion should be sufficient for Kyiv until February 2025, when the USA will have a new president. Analysts from the Center for Eastern Studies, Jacek Tarociński and Andrzej Kohut, assessed in an interview with PAP that Ukraine cannot afford an offensive until then.
Biden also announced that Ukraine will receive the AGM-154 JSOW. These are glide bombs, similar to guided bombs. However, while US and allies' aviation usually constructs guided weapons by giving a standard bomb a guidance kit, the JSOW was built from scratch to hit targets precisely – it has guidance devices and small deployable wings but no propulsion, so it approaches the target like a glider.
After a conversation with Zelensky, Biden also announced that Americans will train 18 Ukrainian multirole aircraft pilots on F-16s.
