On Wednesday, the SBU reported on its Telegram channel that as a result of a special operation, two Russian agents were detained, who were supposed to prepare an improvised explosive device and detonate it in a crowded place in Ukraine's capital.

Objective: Maximum number of casualties

According to SBU counterintelligence, the enemy's goal was to cause "the maximum number of casualties among Kyiv's civilian population, to incite panic among the citizens."

"To carry out the terrorist attack, Russian military intelligence (GRU) remotely recruited a 20-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia who was looking for easy money on Telegram. After the recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from the occupiers on how to create an explosive device from improvised components," the statement said.

"To collaborate with the aggressor, the agent involved her 26-year-old roommate. Before the attack, they were to complete a 'test' task assigned by the Russian services: to set fire to several pieces of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia region," the report stated.

Treason. The would-be attackers were detained

According to the SBU, the perpetrator was in contact with a regular employee of Russian military intelligence, who was stationed in the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.

The woman and man were charged with treason committed in conspiracy by a group of individuals under martial law conditions. Both were temporarily detained without the right to post bail.
