Ukraine-linked drone attack ignites Ryazan refinery fire
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, foreign drones—most likely Ukrainian—were spotted over the refinery in the city of Ryazan, located about 200 kilometres southeast of Moscow. A series of explosions occurred, marking yet another attack on this facility within a few days.
The attack took place around 1 AM. According to local residents, about ten explosions were heard. The governor of the Ryazan region, Pavel Malkov, assured the public that the air defence systems managed to shoot down the drones.
However, from the photos and recordings appearing on social media, it appears that at least some of the drones reached their target. A large column of fire appeared at night on the refinery premises, lighting up the entire area.
Russian Telegram channels report that the fire at the plant is "very large." Meanwhile, residents of the surrounding areas noted that after the attack, access roads to the refinery were guarded by services. Only fire trucks, of which a "large number" were seen heading towards the fire scene, were allowed through.
Another attack on the refinery in Ryazan
The refinery near Moscow was also targeted by drones on Thursday. Ukrainians carried out a massive attack on numerous targets in Russia that day.
Among the targets was the refinery in Ryazan. Additionally, three Moscow airports—Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—suspended all flights. One of these recordings captured an explosion on the territory of the attacked refinery, causing people nearby to flee in panic.
