Aviation plays a pivotal role in armed conflicts, allowing for quick and precise strikes on strategic enemy positions and offering substantial support to ground forces. Having control over airspace can significantly influence the outcome of a military campaign, impacting mobility, logistics, and operational effectiveness.
Despite possessing a sizable fleet, the Russian Federation is experiencing growing losses.
Russians lost Su-25 aircraft
The Su-25 was brought down by the air defence of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade, named after Gen. Marek Bezruchko. The unit stated on Facebook that the Russian crash sequence continues, with an outstanding performance by the 110th brigade's sharpshooters. On this day, they took out another Su-25.
Su-25 is vital support for Russian forces
The Su-25 is a Soviet-era twin-engine jet attack aircraft that first flew in 1975 and began mass production in 1978. Recent estimates suggest that the Russian Federation might still have nearly 200 aircraft.
Equipped with two turbojet engines, the Su-25 can reach speeds of approximately 950 km/h (590 mph). The aircraft is over 15 meters (49 feet) in length and weighs about 10,000 kg (22,046 lbs). Its base model has a maximum range of about 510 km (317 miles), and additional fuel tanks can extend this range.
The Su-25 can carry arms on 10 external mounts and carry up to 4,300 kg (9,480 lbs) of weaponry, including bombs, unguided rockets, guided missiles, and gun and bomb pods.
