Ukraine counters Russian assault: 140 aerial threats downed

On Sunday, during a massive combined attack on all regions of Ukraine, Russian invaders used 120 missiles and 90 drones. Air defence forces destroyed over 140 aerial targets, media outlets report.

"A massive combined attack targeted all regions of Ukraine. Overnight and this morning, Russian terrorists used various types of drones, including Shaheds, as well as cruise, ballistic, and aeroballistic missiles—Zircons, Iskanders, and Kinzhals. In total, approximately 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched. Our air defense forces destroyed over 140 aerial targets." writes President Volodymyr Zelensky on X.

"In Mykolaiv, a drone attack killed two people and injured six others, including two children. My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. As of now, some areas remain without power, but all necessary forces are working to mitigate the consequences and restore the infrastructure," he added, as quoted by Ukrinform.

The target of Russia's massive missile attack on Ukraine is the energy system. Therefore, emergency power outages are being implemented in many regions. In Kyiv, residents took shelter in metro stations, among other places. Alarms were activated across the country, and sirens wailed.

"Due to enemy shelling in Kyiv and the region, as well as in the Donetsk and Dnipro regions, preventive power outages are being applied," reported Ukrinform, quoting the head of the capital's military administration, Serhiy Popko.

Lights went out in some districts of Odesa in southern Ukraine, and trams and trolleybuses came to a halt in the city. Ukrainian energy operator DTEK introduced emergency power outages in the Kyiv region and two others in the country's east.
