U.S. to broker major resource deal with Ukraine amidst conflict
"I am sending Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky. This War MUST and WILL END SOON — Too much Death and Destruction," announced U.S. President Donald Trump.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed media reports about the visit of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. "I am sending Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky. This War MUST and WILL END SOON — Too much Death and Destruction," wrote Trump.
"The U.S. has spent BILLIONS of Dollars Globally, with little to show. WHEN AMERICA IS STRONG, THE WORLD IS AT PEACE," Trump added.
Agreement with Ukraine worth billions of dollars
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Bessent might travel to Ukraine for preliminary talks regarding an "agreement" under which the United States would gain access to Kyiv's rare earth element resources in exchange for continued military assistance.
Last week, the U.S. President stated that he is interested in reaching an agreement with Ukraine for the acquisition of rare earth metals and other resources in exchange for arms deliveries. He later added that Kyiv had "essentially agreed" to strike a "deal" worth 500 billion dollars (715 billion Canadian dollars).
Ukraine has significant reserves of uranium and several key minerals, including titanium, lithium, and graphite. According to Ukrainian authorities, their value could reach trillions of dollars.
