Trump's win: Unexpected voter alliances and economic concerns
According to CNN, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris failed to garner sufficient support among women. Meanwhile, the election winner, Donald Trump, effectively mobilized men and groups of voters who were previously unattainable to him.

Harris received fewer female votes than Biden in 2020 and Clinton in 2016. According to CNN, this is particularly concerning, given that a significant part of her campaign focused on the issue of abortion.
In contrast, Trump attracted men and voters who previously seemed beyond his reach. The Republicans focused on mobilizing first-time voters and achieved success in this regard. In this year's elections, more first-time voters supported Trump than Harris, although their numbers were smaller than in 2020.
Trump reached new voters
Latinos, who traditionally support the Democrats, mostly voted for Trump, which surprised Harris's team. She was counting on their votes, especially in swing states. Although Latina women did support the Democratic candidate, it was to a lesser extent than they did for Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden in the past.
The Democratic Party also noted a decline in support among the youngest voters, who usually endorse them. Nonetheless, Harris gained somewhat among the oldest Americans, who traditionally vote Republican. Moreover, the Democrats captured part of Trump's electorate among white voters with higher education — this year, Harris scored 10 percentage points more in this group than four years ago.
The economy's condition is key for Americans
CNN highlights Americans' growing dissatisfaction with the state of the US economy. While four years ago voters were almost evenly divided on this assessment, currently, as many as two-thirds consider the economy to be in poor condition. This shift in sentiment brought significant benefits to Trump, even though the COVID-19 pandemic caused the economic crisis in 2020.
According to calculations by the AP agency, Donald Trump won 291 electoral votes, winning the presidential election in the USA. The President-elect has already thanked Americans for electing him as the head of state. The Republicans are also likely to gain control of the Senate and have a chance to retain a majority in the House of Representatives.
