We need to ask Russia if the war will end this year, because Ukraine is ready for peace - said Donald Trump in Davos. The U.S. President announced that he wants to meet with Putin.

"It's from the standpoint of millions of lives are being wasted ... It's a carnage. And we really have to stop that war," he said. The president added that beautiful, young people were dying on the battlefield and described the situation as a slaughterhouse after seeing pictures of what was happening. Trump emphasised that the war was terrible and must be stopped

- And that's not from the standpoint of economy or anything else. It's from the standpoint of millions of lives are being wasted ... It's a carnage. And we really have to stop that war - he added.

According to him, many more people are dying because of the war than is "reported in the news".

Trump counts on China's help

He also hopes that China will help stop the war in Ukraine. Trump also stated that he plans with Vladimir Putin to make a pact limiting nuclear arsenals, which would also include China.

He informed that just before the end of his previous term (2017-21) he intended to make a deal with him to limit nuclear arms.

Trump said that he had discussed denuclearizing their two countries with Putin and that China would also join the initiative. He noted that, while China currently had a much smaller nuclear arsenal than the United States and Russia, it was on track to catch up within the next four or five years. He added that President Putin was very receptive to the idea of significantly reducing nuclear arsenal.

Trump to approach oil giant

Earlier, Trump said he would seek to lower the price of oil to end the war in Ukraine. During the economic forum in Davos, Trump said he would ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower the price of oil, emphasising that it needed to be reduced. He also stated that the war needed to end.

Trump said that if the price of oil dropped, Russia's war with Ukraine would end immediately. He explained that the current high price was enabling the war to continue and emphasised the need to lower the price of oil to bring the conflict to an end.
