According to a document obtained by Reuters and CNN, a new Justice Department memo details the Trump administration’s plans to "prosecute state and local officials who resist the federal immigration crackdown."

In a three-page memo from acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, it is also stated that federal prosecutors who fail to initiate proceedings in immigration cases will be promptly reported to the Justice Department for investigation and potential charges.

Rapid changes in migration policy

As Reuters reports, the atmosphere surrounding the crackdowns, which were initiated by Trump on his first day in office, is becoming more intense.

CNN notes that the memo represents one of the ways President Trump began altering US immigration policy from the onset of his presidency. During his campaign, Trump promised to reduce immigration and reverse policies from the Biden era that he argued were too lenient and enabled a large influx of illegal immigrants.
