Tragedy in Örebro: Deadly school shooting claims 10 lives

Earlier, during a press conference, the local police reported that at the continuing education school in Örebro, where adults are enrolled, five people sustained gunshot wounds, including one suspect in the attack.

The first call was received at 6:33 AM Eastern Time, and "a large number of officers" were immediately dispatched to the location.

Media sources indicated several fatalities, but the police didn't comment on these reports. Students from this school and nearby institutions were evacuated.

The head of hospital care in the Örebro Region, Jonas Claesson, reported that of the five people injured, four underwent surgery, and one person's injuries are severe.

Police: Alleged perpetrator of the attack is dead

On Tuesday evening, the police confirmed that around 10 people were killed in the shooting. This is an extremely tragic event, they stated at the press conference.

The officers also reported that the alleged perpetrator of the attack is dead. According to the head of local police, Roberto Eida Foresta, the attacker was not previously known to the police. "At this stage, there is no indication of a terrorist motive," he emphasized.

The police officers informed that there is currently no longer a threat.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer told the Swedish news agency TT that "the reports of acts of violence in Örebro are very serious." "The police are on site, the operation is ongoing," he reported earlier. Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that this is a "painful day for the entire country."

Approximately 2,000 students attend Risbergska Skolan, including some who take Swedish language courses for newcomers.
