Three-year-old's accidental shooting leaves sister critical

On Monday evening, December 16th, police were called to an apartment on Galveston Street SW in Washington, D.C. At the scene, they found a critically injured five-year-old who had been shot in the abdomen by her three-year-old brother. The girl was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors are fighting for her life.
The accident happened when the children were under the supervision of an adult who became occupied with other matters, leaving the unsecured gun on the table.
The three-year-old began playing with it, and when his sister came closer, he pulled the trigger. The shot hit the girl in the abdomen.
The children's guardian detained
In connection with the incident, the children's guardian was detained and charged with cruelty towards children. Additionally, a woman suspected of assaulting police officers was arrested. According to the police, the detainee is the sister of the children involved in the shooting.
