Sydney Sweeney underwent a total transformation while preparing for the role of Christy Martin in David Michôd's upcoming biographical film about the famous American boxer. During the filming of the as-yet-untitled movie, which took place in North Carolina, the 27-year-old was almost unrecognizable. Known for her blonde hair, the actress appeared with a short mullet hairstyle, wearing a dark wig tied with a blue bandana, giving her a look completely different from her usual image.

Sydney Sweeney's bold transformation

Sweeney, who recently caught attention for her role in the movie "Anyone But You," concealed her figure under loose pants, a beige T-shirt, and a large zip-up hoodie. On set, she appeared in white athletic shoes and – seemingly – without makeup, which perfectly complemented the realistic look of her character.

Sweeney's styling in the film, based mainly on '90s sportswear, is a far cry from her sensual image associated with earlier productions. Christy Martin, whose story the film tells, gained fame as one of the best female boxers in the USA in the '90s, winning fans' hearts with her talent and charisma.

Martin, however, struggled with personal problems, including a toxic relationship with Jim Martin, her manager and later husband. In 2010, Jim brutally attacked Christy, stabbing her and shooting her. She miraculously survived these dramatic events and decided to tell her story, announcing that the film would help raise awareness about domestic violence. "In a few years, fathers will watch this movie with their daughters and talk about domestic violence," said Martin in an interview with TMZ.com.

From a small town in West Virginia, Martin earned a place on the sports map by overcoming gender stereotypes and rising to the top of women's boxing. She also promised to help Sweeney with her training, especially in perfecting her left hook. However, as it turns out, the actress is not starting from scratch – she has previously practiced kickboxing. "I've been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body," said the actress. "Christy's story isn't a light one, it's physically and emotionally demanding, there's a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself," she added. "I’m passionate about the fighting world, Christy’s story shines a light on her incredible rise to the top while showing the struggles of fame behind the curtains," Sweeney comments.
