Last week, Stellantis confirmed to Italian unions that it does not plan to close plants or conduct mass layoffs in the country. However, this does not mean that everything will run smoothly. In the current financial situation, cuts are indeed necessary.
Stellantis aims to save money by temporarily halting some production lines, a practice already well-known to Italian workers. The company has just announced further decisions. The first break at the Cassino plant will last one day, November 29. The second, in Tremoli, will last from December 16 to 22.
Company representatives say they are determined to ensure the continuity of operations in Italy, but they are on a path that requires difficult choices. Stellantis has been facing declining demand for some time and increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers. It is also struggling with large inventories, leading to reduced financial forecasts.
