Within eight hours, enough rain fell to match the amount typically recorded over an entire year. These rains caused cities to flood, buildings and bridges destroyed, and vehicles overturned in the streets. Among the disaster's victims was Jose Castillejo, a former player for Valencia, Paterna, CD Bunol, Recam Colnn, and Torre Levante. Valencia issued a statement saying that the mentioned player, who once played for their youth teams, died due to the disaster.
The Eldense club, where Castillejo played between January and August 2016, also expressed condolences, conveying sorrow over the death of the former player and sympathy to his family and friends.
Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, emphasized the severity of the situation, warning residents that the crisis is not over yet and many remain without access to water and electricity. Many have been stranded due to destroyed vehicles or blocked roads.
