Do you recall Sony smartphones being on the market? In the past, devices from the Xperia lineup were quite popular and praised for their photo and video quality. It appears that the new Sony Xperia 1 VI model will live up to buyers' expectations. However, the question remains whether the camera's quality alone will persuade enough customers to invest in this pricey flagship.
The new Sony smartphone boasts an exceptional camera
From Sony to Sony Ericsson, and now Xperia—smartphones from this Japanese brand have evolved over time. It's important to note that in recent years, the tech giant has been struggling in the mobile phone segment. Their products are meticulously designed and often feature intriguing elements. Still, for various reasons, they fail to attract as many customers as the latest models from realme, Samsung, Xiaomi, or Apple. Nonetheless, it's pivotal to highlight that Sony flagships usually offer exceptional photographic cameras—a fact that's hardly surprising, given Sony's renowned status in the photographic industry.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI is set to launch on May 15 officially. Information about an advanced photographic camera to be featured in this model has already surfaced. With more details emerging, the new Xperia 1 VI continues to pique interest.
Impressive telephoto lens
The Xperia 1 VI emphasizes an impressive element: remarkable zoom capabilities.
The telephoto lens in the Sony Xperia 1 VI model has been upgraded with a new optical zoom compared to its predecessor. It's expected to feature a focal range of 85-170 mm, allowing for an image enlargement of 3.5 to 7 times. This is a notable achievement, especially when most flagship phones from competitors, such as the Google Pixel 8 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, offer only five times zoom.
New camera app
The most significant innovation for many users might be the new camera app. Designed for ease and intuitiveness, this app enables control over various photo and video shooting modes with a single application. While Sony has previously marketed advanced solutions for professionals, including the capability to record films in cinema quality, average users often encountered challenges in leveraging the phone's full potential.
Although the hardware for the main and wide-angle cameras remains the same as in the Sony Xperia 1 V, the Japanese company has enhanced the software, subsequently boosting device performance. Hence, we can anticipate even better quality photos and videos.
Changes from previous models also extend to the device's design. Sony smartphones traditionally had a unique, elongated shape with a 21:9 ratio screen and relatively large frames above and below. The new model is expected to feature a 19.5:9 screen ratio, possibly even with a 4K resolution. Performance-wise, the device is top-tier, equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, supported by 12 or 16 GB of RAM.
Will the Sony Xperia 1 VI emerge as the best smartphone for photography? Time will tell, but while photo quality test results are one aspect, smartphone sales are an entirely different matter. It's challenging to predict whether the new flagship from Japan will manage to pose a real threat to the dominance of brands like Samsung, Apple, and Chinese manufacturers.
