Skip the toothbrush: Effortless trick for a cleaner wash drawer
Cleaning the detergent drawer can be tedious and time-consuming. We often skip this area during cleaning, which is a significant oversight. It's worth trying this simple trick that quickly addresses the issue.
Few people realize that the drawer in the washing machine is a spot that requires special attention while cleaning the laundry area. This is where detergent residues, dirt, and moisture usually accumulate, leading to the formation of mould and unpleasant odours that can linger on clothes during washing.
Mould is hazardous to our health and can cause allergic symptoms such as rashes, sneezing, coughing, eye irritation, and even shortness of breath. Washing clothes in a mouldy washing machine is not only unhealthy but also ineffective—the clothes remain unappealing due to the persistent odour even after washing.
Cleaning the washing machine drawer is an often overlooked task, and that's a mistake. Regular maintenance of this part of the washing machine is crucial for its performance. A machine with a neglected drawer can lead to technical problems and may not clean clothes effectively. Clogged, dirty openings contribute to incorrect equipment operation. Regular cleaning of the drawer results in fresher clothes and more thorough cleaning.
Most people clean the drawer with a toothbrush
The most popular method for cleaning the drawer involves using warm water with vinegar. People use a toothbrush and cotton swabs to reach every corner and thoroughly remove dirt from nooks and crannies. This method has its pros and cons. Yes, the drawer will be clean, but to achieve the result, you must put in significant effort and scrub the drawer for an extended period. The entire process can take several hours.
Thanks to this trick, you will forget about scrubbing
Thankfully, cleaning doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. An excellent trick restores the shine to this part of the washing machine without unnecessary scrubbing and without spending half a day cleaning. It doesn't require buying extra products; just use what you already have at home. You will need soft dishwashing sponges and vinegar.
What do you need to do? Place clean, unused sponges in the drawer's compartments, and then pour vinegar over them. Don’t be stingy with it; it's better to use more than less. Leave them in the compartments for at least half an hour. After this time, the dirt should be much easier to remove. In the next step, lightly wipe the surface with the sponges, and the dirt should come off quickly. Finally, rinse everything under running water, and you're done.
After cleaning the drawer, it's also wise to care for the inside of the appliance. To disinfect the inside of the washing machine, set a cycle (with a high temperature) and run a wash without clothes. For this, you can add 175 ml of vinegar or toss a dishwashing capsule into the drum.
