Security tightened for Kim Jong Un amid assassination fears
Concerns are growing over possible assassination attempts on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. In response, actions have been taken to bolster the dictator's protection.
Amid rising fears of attempts on the life of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, his security has been significantly enhanced. This information was conveyed to South Korean lawmakers by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) on Tuesday, as reported by the Yonhap agency.
The intelligence agency presented its findings during a parliamentary oversight session. According to the NIS, heightened security measures include the introduction of communications-jamming vehicles and intensified efforts to implement drone detection technology that could potentially threaten the leader.
Recently, Kim Jong Un has been making public appearances much more frequently than before. This year, he has made 110 official appearances, marking an increase of about 60% compared to the previous year.
North Korea no longer does this. "Strengthening position"
The intelligence agency also reports that North Korea has recently stopped using the so-called Juche calendar. This calendar begins with the birth of Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of the current leader, born on April 15, 1912, and who died in 1994. This decision aims to strengthen Kim Jong Un’s position as the country's sole leader.
NIS also informs that Ju-ae, Kim Jong Un's daughter, has been playing an increasingly significant role recently, which may indicate a partial elevation of her status. One example is her presence alongside her aunt, Kim Yo Jong, the leader's influential sister, at public events.
North Korea sends soldiers to Ukraine
Recently, Kim Jong Un and his country have been in the spotlight due to the decision to send soldiers to Ukraine. They are to support Russian forces there. Over 10,000 North Korean soldiers might be deployed to the front.
