Saudi Arabia's Highway 10 shatters records with the world's longest straight stretch
Perfectly long straights are primarily associated with the United States or Australia. However, the record-breaking road is not located in either of those countries. Surprised?
The longest straight stretch of road in the world is in Saudi Arabia, specifically Highway 10, which connects Ad Darb, near the Red Sea, with Al Batha, near the Persian Gulf.
The whole route is about 1,474 kilometres long, but the perfectly straight stretch is "only" about 240 kilometres long. Enough to deserve the title of the longest straight in the world and an entry into the Guinness World Records.
It is worth noting that the record-breaking segment is not only devoid of curves but also significant elevations. There is quite a bit of traffic there, mainly trucks. Sand is also a considerable hazard, often accumulating in larger quantities on the surface.
A few years ago, the straight in Saudi Arabia took the prestigious title from the well-known Eyre Highway in Australia, whose 140-kilometre straight was considered the most extended straight segment in the world.
