The surrendered soldiers were fighting in the Kursk region against Ukrainian forces, who, at the beginning of August, advanced several dozen miles into Russian territory.
In total, 110 Russian soldiers hoisted the white flag on Wednesday. Reports indicate that most of them are rank-and-file conscripts, but among the prisoners are also military personnel whose task was to prevent the retreat of regular Russian units.
Russians surrender. They prefer Ukrainian captivity
This is yet another instance in recent days where Putin's army soldiers have voluntarily laid down their arms. Last Thursday, a unit from the 14th Regiment of Unmanned Systems Forces, together with the 80th Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, captured Russian prisoners in the Kursk region of Russia.
According to a recording released by the units, the Russians surrendered right after the Ukrainians attacked a checkpoint in the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, Ukrainian and Russian media reported that during the ongoing offensive in the Kursk region of Russia, several dozen of Putin's soldiers were captured. The prisoners were taken near the village of Gogolevka, near the border with Ukraine. Several hundred more soldiers were expected to surrender.
Kyiv has been encouraging Russians to lay down their arms since the beginning of the war. Russians can save their lives by doing so.
