Russian sabotage threats stir calls for stronger Ukraine support
- If Putin is allowed to succeed in reducing Ukraine to a vassal state, he will not stop there, warned Richard Moore, head of MI6. The head of the British intelligence agency also admitted that a Russian sabotage campaign in Europe has been uncovered.
-We have recently uncovered a staggeringly reckless campaign of Russian sabotage in Europe, even as Putin and his acolytes resort to nuclear sabre-rattling to sow fear about the consequences of aiding Ukraine — announced Moore, who spoke at the British Embassy in Paris alongside Nicolas Lerner, head of France's Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE - foreign and strategic intelligence service).
Moore noted that the costs of not helping Ukraine would be much higher than the current support. Putin's success could embolden China, North Korea, and Iran. The head of MI6 emphasized that Ukraine's allies want victory, and MI6, along with the French DGSE, play a crucial role in assessing the risks associated with Russian aggression.
Moore's address aimed to mobilize Ukraine’s European allies and those in the U.S. administration who might be sceptical of aiding Kyiv. Moore stressed that transatlantic cooperation enhances the security of the countries involved.
Iran's allies exhausted
Moore also mentioned the losses suffered by armed groups associated with Iran in the Middle East in their confrontation with Israel. However, he noted that Iran's nuclear ambitions still pose a threat. Reuters recalled that Moscow is behind Europe's growing number of diversionary actions.
Last week, American intelligence sources reported that Russia is likely to intensify its sabotage campaign in Europe to pressure the West and discourage support for Ukraine. In October, Moore warned that Russia's military intelligence agency GRU is trying to sow chaos in the United Kingdom and Europe.
