Russian military district employee arrested for high treason

An employee of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has been detained on charges of high treason, the Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Tuesday. The suspect is alleged to have been passing information to the Ukrainian army.

An employee of the Southern Military District was detained on charges of high treason and passing information to members of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the press service of the FSB for the Rostov region reported.

"It was established that in January, a resident of Rostov-on-Don established and maintained contact with a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine via the Signal messenger app. Acting on the orders of the Ukrainian side in 2023, this person began serving in one of the military units of the Southern Military District, where they collected various types of information about arsenals, bases, and warehouses that are part of the district" the statement read.

The FSB reported that Russian authorities confiscated communication devices used by the suspect to contact the representative of the Ukrainian side. A criminal case has been initiated under article 275 of the Russian criminal code (high treason).
