Russian general dismissed over false reports in Ukraine conflict

The upheaval in the Russian military shows no signs of stopping. Reports from independent Russian bloggers about General Gennady Anashkin's dismissal are becoming more credible. The dismissal was allegedly due to falsified reports about his victories in Ukraine.

Colonel General Gennady Anashkin was reportedly relieved of his duty as commander of the "Southern Group" of the Russian army engaged in eastern Ukraine. Military bloggers said he was accused of fabricating reports on successes at the front line.

According to the Military Informant channel, which is associated with the Russian army, false reports of "alleged deep breakthroughs" in combat operations began emerging from the Siversk area, where units under Anashkin's command are fighting against Ukrainian forces.

The pro-government Rybar channel on the Telegram platform claims that Anashkin unnecessarily risked the lives of hundreds of soldiers by sending them to the front without adequate preparation and equipment.

The "Daily Mail" reports that neither the Kremlin nor the Russian army have officially commented on these reports. A source in the defence ministry, quoted by state media, confirmed the general's dismissal, explaining it as a "planned rotation."

Russian military bloggers have supported the decision to remove Anashkin, hoping for improved military operations and greater concern for soldiers' lives.

General Anashkin took command of the "Southern Group" in May of this year. In 2008, for leading airborne units during the war with Georgia, he was awarded the title Hero of Russia, the country's highest honour.

It should be noted that independent sources have not confirmed these details, and the official stance of the Russian authorities on this matter remains unknown.
