Roy Jones Jr. mourns the loss of his son to tragic suicide
Legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr., one of history's best, announced that his son DeAndre has passed away. Late Monday evening, the boxer issued a statement asking for respect for his family's privacy during this difficult time.
Roy Jones Jr. revealed that his son committed suicide. It is not known what drove him to take this step.
Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his own life on Saturday - wrote Jones Jr. on social media. - I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me [sic] and the family. I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and God should be the one to take it away - he added.
Jones asked fans to "respect our privacy" until everyone recovers from the terrible tragedy. Thirty-two-year-old DeAndre was one of Jones Jr.'s three sons.
