Reynolds and Jackman reunite for comedic 'Boy Band' film
Stars of the blockbuster "Deadpool & Wolverine," and real-life friends Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are set to collaborate again with director Shawn Levy. We've learned details about an exciting new comedy project.
Ryan Reynolds is poised to consider 2024 a successful year. His film "Deadpool & Wolverine" has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, his soccer team Wrexham has been promoted to a higher league, and by the year's end, he was named Producer of the Year by The Hollywood Reporter. During an interview when receiving this award, Reynolds shared some details about his professional plans.
Jackman and Reynolds join forces again
Although he mentioned having "some ideas regarding the MCU," Reynolds added that "none of them focuses on Deadpool." He revealed a bit more about another project - "Boy Band," a film he's been trying to make for several years. In it, Reynolds would star alongside Jackman, with the duo playing former child stars who reunite in middle age.
Reynolds told the publication he's currently revising and polishing the script: "The first draft was incredible and written by one of my favourite writers, Jesse Andrews [Me and Earl and the Dying Girl]. Now I'm on my lonesome."
Even though Reynolds, who plans to also produce the film with director Shawn Levy, doesn't have a set start date for filming yet, he already has a clear idea for the plot of "Boy Band":
- Shawn, Hugh and I are open to creative ways to make this movie at an absolute bargain. These kids achieved incredible fame with no blueprint at all. They experienced levels of fame that would be very difficult for anyone to navigate, let alone an adolescent, when you are farming out your self-worth to an audience of screaming people. It creates a kind of arrested cultural development. They’re forever associated with that period of time in their lives. This would be about people in their 40s and 50s trying to get their lives back. I think there is something beautiful about that - Reynolds stated.
And although Reynolds has never participated in a musical, fortunately, his friend with claws has already showcased his musical talent several times. Jackman was a star of "Les Misérables" and "The Greatest Showman," so in the role of a former boy band star, he'd find himself, at the very least... singing.
