Japan is renowned for its exceptionally high sanitary standards, making this discovery all the more startling and causing a significant stir in public opinion. The bread in question is produced by Pasco Shikishima, a brand that has been a staple in the market since 1920 and is one of Japan's most recognized and trusted bread suppliers.

The contaminated loaves originated from a factory in Akishima, Tokyo Prefecture. Pasco Shikishima has formally apologized to consumers and requested the return of products with expiry dates from May 7 to May 11.

Remains of the rodent found in bread: "We would like to apologize deeply"

As stated in their announcement, Pasco Shikishima is actively investigating how rodents end up in its products and extends its most profound apologies for the inconvenience caused to customers, business partners, and others involved.

"We would like to apologize deeply for causing trouble to our customers and clients" - according to the statement.

Japan Times notes that the affected bread, containing fragments of the rodent, is popular among the Japanese population. Importantly, this product is not available outside of Japan.
