This unusual event occurred on Monday, November 4th, at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. According to the "New York Post," a raccoon made its way through an opening in the ceiling and dangled from wires in the terminal. The situation caused panic among passengers waiting for their flight and airline staff.
A raccoon ran around the airport
Recordings shared on social media show the raccoon hanging from cables while people slowly moved to a safe place. When the animal fell to the floor, employees standing behind the counter quickly fled.
The raccoon then darted through the security checkpoint area, causing further confusion. One traveller attempted to catch the intruder using an empty garbage can.
The incident generated numerous comments online. "This is both the most LaGuardia thing and the most Spirit Airlines thing to happen," remarked one user on TikTok.
The raccoon was removed from the airport area
A Port Authority spokesperson stated that the raccoon was spotted shortly after 8 AM Eastern Time. The animal was eventually captured and released outside the airport terminal.
The airport is working with a professional wildlife control company to prevent similar situations in the future. "To ensure safety, airport staff is working closely with a professional wildlife control company to monitor the area, identify potential entry points, and implement necessary precautions," stated the spokesperson.
