On a recent flight from Sydney to Tokyo, Qantas passengers were unpleasantly surprised when a film with controversial content was displayed on all screens instead of the usual entertainment.

The film in question is "Daddio," starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, which contains nudity, sex, and profanity. According to TMZ, Qantas Airlines issued a statement shortly after the incident, apologizing to passengers.

The reason for displaying the film was technical issues

It all started with a failure of the onboard entertainment system, preventing passengers from selecting their films. As a result, the cabin crew decided to show a film chosen by some from a limited list of available titles. Unfortunately, the film "Daddio," which contained bold scenes, was inappropriate for families travelling with children.

One passenger shared his thoughts on Reddit, describing "it featured graphic nudity and lots of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones," he complained. The situation lasted almost an hour before the Qantas team changed the movie to something more family-friendly.

Qantas Airlines issued a statement

The airline issued an official apology, admitting that the film was "clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight, and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience." The statement added, "All screens were changed to a family-friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn’t possible."

Although Qantas expressed regret and changed the program, the emotional damage is irreparable for many travellers. The situation surely caused awkwardness on board, especially among families with children, for whom inadvertently exposing adult content could be particularly embarrassing. Despite changing the film, passengers were visibly upset by the incident.
