Putin affirms strategic vows with North Korea in New Year's message
Russian President Vladimir Putin assured North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in a message that both countries will continue to implement their strategic partnership treaty. Putin also expressed confidence that Moscow and Pyongyang will further intensify "efforts to combat modern threats and challenges," reports the KCNA agency.

In a New Year’s message to the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that cooperation with Pyongyang aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations, conveyed the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to the agency, the congratulatory letter was sent on December 17th. Putin emphasized that the June summit between Russia and North Korea elevated Russian-Korean relations to a new qualitative level. "The comprehensive strategic partnership agreement has created conditions for a fundamental expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in all important fields," recalled KCNA from the message's content.
A new stage of cooperation
"I am convinced that in the upcoming year 2025, we will continue close cooperation in implementing this historic agreement, bringing our efforts to fight modern threats and challenges even closer," the letter stated. "This undoubtedly corresponds to the key interests of the peoples of Russia and North Korea," the message added.
Putin wished Kim Jong Un and his family health and happiness, and prosperity to the citizens of North Korea.
Strategic partnership treaty
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and North Korea, signed on June 19th during Putin's visit to Pyongyang, came into effect on December 4th. According to the treaty's preamble, it corresponds to the key interests of the peoples of Russia and North Korea and contributes to ensuring regional and global peace, security, and stability.
According to the document, the parties permanently support and develop relations based on their national laws and international obligations. This strategic partnership is grounded in principles such as mutual respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, equality, and other principles of international law concerning friendly relations and cooperation between states.
