The young man consumed the mushrooms after returning to the hotel. This led to a severe reaction. Approximately 40 minutes later, foam began coming from his mouth. The Briton also began to shake uncontrollably. He died shortly afterward.
A spokesperson for the British Foreign Office expressed condolences to the bereaved family and informed them that they are receiving support. Authorities are in constant contact with local services.
Investigation ongoing
Local authorities are investigating the death of the young tourist. On December 23 of this year, a raid was conducted on the shop where the deceased and his partner purchased the mushrooms. The sellers of illegal mushrooms, pointed out by the woman, have already been arrested. Four people were employed at the location. Furthermore, up to 7 kilograms of drugs were found in the shop's storage. The portal khaosodenglish.com reported that each package of forbidden mushrooms was sold for 500 baht (approximately CAD 20).
