The report "Billionaire Census 2024" states that New York is home to the largest number of billionaires worldwide, totalling 144. This marks an increase of nine from the previous year.
Altrata's findings highlight that the number of people with a net worth exceeding $50 billion rose by 4% from last year, now reaching 3,323. During this period, billionaires expanded their total wealth by 9%. Business Insider reports that their combined wealth now equals $12.1 trillion.
Hong Kong is second with 107 billionaires, despite a decrease of five in 2023. Both San Francisco and London gained three new billionaires, bringing their totals to 87 and 78, respectively. Moscow completes the top five with 77 billionaires after gaining one more.
"Most of the top-ranked billionaire cities increased their super-wealthy populations, with the U.S. cities of New York and Los Angeles recording the strongest growth. The headwinds affecting the Chinese economy brought about a decline in billionaire numbers in all three of China’s largest wealth centres: Beijing, Shenzhen and Hangzhou, as well as in Hong Kong," reported the magazine "Robb Report".
Los Angeles climbed to sixth place, surpassing Beijing, with an addition of five new billionaires. It now hosts 62. The Chinese capital dropped to seventh with 60 billionaires. India reported the largest increase in new billionaires, with 304 wealthy individuals, including 40 in Mumbai.
